Variations and Payouts in Keno
Keno is
a very simple game of chance, that can be played in almost
countless ways. Keno is played live in casinos and other venues, and also
online. The odds in online or video keno are slightly
better than in live keno. However, live keno games are much
more laid back. In other words, with live keno it will take longer
to lose your money than with video or online keno.
Keno is very simple. You have a grid of numbers, that range from 1 to 80.
You choose from 2 to 10 of them. In some casinos you can choose up to 20 of them. The
casino or machine chooses 20 numbers randomly from 1 to 80. Each of your
chosen numbers that match a drawn number is a “catch”.
Payouts in keno games can range from around 84% to around 95%. In live
casinos revenue is calculated in terms of profit per square foot. Slot
machines return up to 98% of money invested in the machines, because
floor space won’t cut casino profits. Live keno lounges however
require significant floor space and many employees. It means, that
payouts at live keno venues are lower than for online keno games.
Some Popular Keno Variations More
Power keno is like the basic keno with the added bonus of a power ball. If
the 20th number drawn matches one of the numbers selected by the player,
the player’s winnings are multiplied by four. For example, you’ll
usually win something like 26:1 if you match 3 on a pick 3 game.
However, if one of those three catches is the 20th ball drawn, your
winnings will be (26x4):1 or 104:1. This version of keno began in
Australia and rapidly grew in popularity. It is now found worldwide.
Payouts in power keno are generally around 89%.
Super keno is very similar to power keno. The difference is, that if the
first number drawn is a winner, the resulting payout after all 20
balls will be multiplied by four. In video super keno
the payouts for Pick 1 and for Pick 2 are usually the lowest (around
86%). Other game options for super keno have payouts of around 92%.
Top-bottom keno is an even simpler version. Instead of betting
on individual numbers you bet on either the top half of your keno
ticket (containing the numbers 1-40) or the bottom half of your keno
ticket (containing the numbers 41-80). If 11 or more numbers drawn fall
in the half you bet on, you'll win 2:1.
There are many other ways of marking a keno ticket, such as left or
right side, which is pretty much the same as top bottom keno except the
grid is divided vertically instead of horizontally. You can also mark the
keno ticket's edge, meaning you bet on the numbers that outline the grid.
With edge tickets, keno lounges will specify how many catches you must
get in order to win.
Next to slots, keno is the simplest casino game. The countless
variations of the game ensure a lot of excitement, even though the
probability of a catch is always the same.
